Description: FORT LAUDERDALE -- The 911 caller was frantic as she reported gunfire that police said was aimed at a Rolls Royce driven by rap music star Rick Ross.
"I just heard a bunch of gun shots go off and a car sped by," the woman, who identified herself as manager of The Floridian diner, told a dispatcher around 5 a.m. Monday. "My server just left on her bike. Oh my God, they're turning around and coming back. I'm hanging up."
Before she can disconnect, the dispatcher asks, "How many shots did you hear?"
"I don't know," the manager says, "but they're coming back! I'm hiding!"
The edited 911 calls released by the Fort Lauderdale Police Department on Tuesday include sleepy residents who reported gunfire, while others describe a man in a red shirt at the scene after a luxury car crashed into an apartment building behind the restaurant.
Police have not described those being sought in connection with the gunfire that happened in the 1300 to 1500 blocks of Las Olas Boulevard, the city's main shopping and strolling street that spans downtown to the beach.
It was Ross's 37th birthday. Sunday night, he had performed at LIV nightclub at The Fontainebleau hotel on Miami Beach. His companion was Shateria L. Moragne-el, 28, a fashion stylist and designer. They reside in Davie.
A spokesman for the performer could not be reached for comment.
One caller to 911 reported hearing nine shots, all of which missed the couple and the car. One went through a window of the diner, but missed staffers and patrons. The owner declined to comment Tuesday.
Across the boulevard at Tiffany Nail & Foot Spa, manager Mijung Cho looked through a newly installed window.
"The cops told us it was a ricochet," she said of the bullet that had cracked the glass storefront. "It's a big thing on Las Olas."
The spa was closed during the mayhem and none of the staff was harmed. No bullet was found inside, she said.
"This kind of thing happens everywhere," Cho said. "You can't be afraid of that. Life goes on."
So would she give Ross a mani-pedi?
"Heck yeah!" Cho said.
